  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Kayla -- The edition matters! : Just to clarify, there are several editions of this book all being reviewed under one heading here. The one that is [currently] offered as the “hardcover” edition, the one that is illustrated by Robert Ingpen AND has 224 pages in the product specifications, is NOT abridged. It is the full text, and it is wonderful, from the paper quality to the binding to the formatting to, of course, the wonderful text and gorgeous illustrations. I would highly recommend. I believe there is an abridged children’s version on the market, too, that also has illustrations by Ingpen, so just check your number of pages (I think that one is listed as having 96 or so) if having the full text is important to you. At least until “abridged” or “unabridged” becomes part of the book specs on Amazon. ( Reviewed in the United States on September 12, 2019 )
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars from sadbeagle -- Beware - Beautiful, but Shortened Version of Full Text : This edition is called "The Classic Edition" and Kenneth Graham is the author. However, beware, this is not the long edition that I have read several times before. This is a shortened edition. I did not realize when I purchased it that "Classic Edition" was not the full version. The illustrations are beautiful, and the story is fine, but the shortened length deprives the reader of the detailed delights in the full version. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Nicole Barkley -- WOW : First let me start by saying I bought the hardcover version of this book, illustrated by Robert Ingpen. I bought this book for myself as I am currently collecting all the illustrated editions of classic stories/books for my collection and I was a bit skeptical at first based on reviews. However, I decided that I would take the plunge and buy it anyway as this seems like a beautiful edition. This book arrived at my house yesterday and I instantly fell in love with it just by looking at the cover. This book is very beautiful, the pages are thick and luxurious and there is an illustration on almost every page. Robert Ingpen is a master illustrator. I highly recommend this book. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Penelope Mayfield -- Timeless classic that will endure through the ages, entertaining readers who are young and those who are young at heart : Upon opening up this beautifully illustrated edition of The Wind in the Willows, the smell of the paper, the faces of my friends – Toad, Badger, Ratty, and Mole – transported me back to the bright pink bedroom of my childhood. • 3.0 out of 5 stars from Kenya Starflight -- A flawed but charming children's novel : Yes, I somehow got all the way to this point in my life without having read "The Wind in the Willows," which is widely hailed as a classic. I remember seeing the Disney version years ago as a child, as well as a stop-motion-animated version on television at some point, but never got around to reading the actual book until very recently. And having read what's widely hailed as a classic of children's literature... I have to conclude that this book would have charmed me immensely as a child, but as an adult I find myself questioning the logic of the story too much. • 1.0 out of 5 stars from JF -- Beware! Not all versions are the same. : Amazon appears to have amalgamated the reviews for all versions of Kenneth Grahame's book. This particular version, identifiable by a green band at the top and bottom of the cover picture and the date of 14th March for its addition to Amazon, is very poor. It appears to have been auto translated from a foreign language. The opening sentence is 'The Mole were running very hard all the morning, spring cleaning his little domestic.' It continues in like manner with grammatical errors and numerous changes to Grahame's original text. ( Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 1, 2020 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from M. Dowden -- A Personal Favourite : This book is a personal favourite of mine, and one that I never get tired of reading, and I know that I am not the only adult that has read it many times, and will continue to do so. Great for children as well this is something that you can read to them in instalments, and when they are old enough, they can then read themselves. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from The Elite Book Group -- A children’s classic. Wonderful….. : It was marvellous to be able to revisit this children’s classic which was first published at the beginning of the last century. It has lost none of its charms over the years and although anthropomorphic stories may these days be seen as old-fashioned there is no doubt that the tales of Ratty, Mr Mole, Toad and Badger remain very readable and are still highly enjoyable. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from J. A. Elliott -- An utterly delightful classic : In old age I am re-reading the stories I remember from my youth. I am so impressed by the skill of Grahame as a writer - he is a master of descriptive English. There are no illustrations in this edition, but they are not needed. The images conjured up by the text alone are quite sufficient and very vivid. I marvelled at the sheer cleverness of the writer. It is ostensibly a children's book, but the text and vocabulary are very adult and advanced. Also, one cannot but observe the general tone of kindliness in the book, a welcome attribute and lesson for our age. I found myself beaming with pleasure as I read. Аннотация: One of the true classics of English literature, here are the adventures of Mole, Water Rat, Badger, and Toad. The Wind in the Willows is a children's book by the British novelist Kenneth Grahame, first published in 1908. Alternatingly slow-moving and fast-paced, it focuses on four anthropomorphised animals: Mole, Rat (a European water vole), Toad, and Badger. They live in a pastoral version of Edwardian England. Robert Ingpen's illustrated edition of Wind In the Willows is my favorite version of this classic.
